All webmasters and SEOs should keep their eyes on Google Updates. If a website suffers a drop in ranking or SEO visibility, these algorithm changes, filters, data refreshes, or other alterations are often to blame. A list of all important Google updates dating back to 2010 can be found on this page.

Overview Of Google Updates

The algorithms that Google uses are complex and used to retrieve data from its search index and instantly provide the most relevant results. On its search engine results pages (SERPs), the search engine ranks pages based on an algorithm and numerous ranking factors.

Google’s algorithms were updated only a few times in its initial years. These days, Google updates its algorithms thousands of times a year.

These updates are often so minor that they go completely unnoticed. There are, however, occasions when the search engine rolls out major algorithm updates that significantly affect the SERPs, such as:

  • Fred
  • Intrusive Interstitials Update
  • Mobilegeddon
  • RankBrain
  • Panda
  • Penguin
  • Hummingbird
  • Pigeon
  • Payday
  • EMD (Exact Match Domain)
